Commercial dog shampoos have certain ingredients which may sound nice to us, but they are not at all good for the dogs. They can cause flakiness, itching and general discomfort to the very sensitive skin of the dog. For example, the Polyethylene Glycol is a petroleum product that is found in most cosmetic dog shampoos can sap the natural moisture from the skin. Sodium lauryl sulphate and Sodium Laureth Sulphate are commonly found detergents in dog shampoos. These can damage the eye and can also cause severe skin irritation and even diarrhoea.
Just like human beings, dogs’ coat need to be washed in such way and with such shampoo which helps to maintain and enrich the quality of the coat. Any shampoo which is made of harsh chemicals is not at all good for the dog’s coat. While choosing the shampoo for your dog it is necessary to keep in mind that you get the one which will do no harm to the dog’s coat and skin. All commercially available shampoo has more or less chemicals added in it. If you want to have a real good shampoo for your dog, it will be expensive as the cheaper ones have more chemicals and ingredients those are potentially skin irritating. In that case, a homemade shampoo is the best solution.
